Current Permanent Layout - STB IX

Like my previous layout, the Steintalbahn (STB) is a fictitious local government owned 750 mm line in Bavaria, which shares running rights with the DRG. The central point of the layout is the main DRG SG station, Güntersberge, [named after my favourite town in the Harz] is located on the electrified line from Munchen to Augsburg. A branch line from Güntersberge [which the STB also operates two railcars on] runs South to a junction at Stolberg, then on to Nordburg where it joins the main line to Munchen. The line initially runs East from the Bf, then after crossing the mainline via an over bridge, turns south and starts it journey along the Stoletal Valley towards Stolberg. Three Kms to the West is another branch line running North to the small town of Aichach.

As well as two through and bay platforms, Güntersberge Bf also has two platforms that serve the STB 750 mm for trains to Rothburg, Augustdorf and Altenstein. The first station on the Rothburg line is Bad Mainfeld, which is the junction for Rothburg, used by both the DRG and STB and a short, steeply graded line to Altenstein, solely the domain of the STB railcars and the occasional goods or mixed train. At the Eastern end of the line is Augustdorf, where the DRG has its main depot and a connection to the main line Munchen.

Both the SG and NG have loco depots at Güntersberge. The SG DRG shed mainly housing locos for the Stolberg and Aichach branches. Güntersberge is the STB’s main loco depot that is some 200 m East of the Bf on the Augustdorf line. The STB as an exchange siding for rollwagon traffic and another for stabling railcars for use on the Altenstein service.

Other pages show some of the previous layouts and locos used on the layouts.
